Carlos Alberto de Sousa Lopes

Born in the town of Viseu on February 18, 1947.

He initiated its athletics activity in the club of Lusitanos de Vildemoinhos (1966), Sporting Club de Portugal (1967 to 1985) and Imortal de Albufeira Club (1986).

Biography

1984 - Olympic Games of Los Angeles – Gold Medal on the Marathon distance;
1976 - Silver Medallist on 10 000m track O.G. of Montreal;
1976 - World Cross country Champion in 1976, 1984 and 1985; silver medal in 1977 and 1983;
1985 - World Best performance on Marathon (2:07’12);
1982 - European record on 10 000m (27,21.39 in);
Portuguese record of 3000, 5000 and 10 000m and 2 miles;
9 Times Champion of Portugal on the Track;
10 Times Champion of Portugal of cross country;
3 Times individual winner in the European cross country Cup;
7 times winning collective, for his club of Lisbon;
34 Times International, including presences in the Olympic Games of 1972, 1976 and 1984, in the World Championships of 1983, the Europeans Championships of 1969, 1974 and 1982, and in 9 World Championships of Cross Country.
